Christianity’s baggage

Now, I’ll start with this. I'm a Christian, I’m strong in my faith and believe in the fundamentals of Christianity, BUT I’m not blind to the harsh reality that is Christianity has a lot of baggage. At least not Christianity itself but the history connected to it. Christianity is a religion with love and judgement but sometimes the judgement part can be taken a bit too seriously.

Recently in my history class we were learning about Columbus and the false propaganda he promoted to hide the atrocities and chaos he put the Taino Arawak natives  through, and how this was the start of colonization throughout the Americas. A huge justification of this terror was religion, spreading the word of God and what not, but how and why in your right mind would you think it’s okay to force a religion on someone, why would you think God approves of this? God gave us free will to go to him WILLINGLY, never forced, this facet of colonization was nothing but evil, other Christian's would say the enemy used the religion to cause chaos. Also as true Christian’s you must be willing to get to know and learn of these peoples beliefs to understand them and then maybe they would listen in return.

Sorry for going on a tangent but basically what I’m saying is history ruined and tarnished what Christianity is supposed to be. In the modern world many Christian’s don’t practice Christianity with love, they do it out of routine, at least the older Christian’s. In new age Christianity I’ve noticed many younger Christian’s are starting to spread the word of God with love and with the understanding that everyone is different, this really gives me hope, because it’s that fear of God that strayed me away from him as a child, if only I had been taught about this monotheistic religion without judgement but instead with love, I think my life could’ve been slightly different. Now I’ll admit I’m not the perfect Christian, I talk to worldly men, I drink occasionally, curse like the worlds about to end, I’m not very disciplined , but I do try and I remind myself that faith is not a straight pivot, I love being one of God's children nonetheless and I’m glad he’s always watching over me.
