Classism and Racism are Besties.

Classism and racism go hand in hand. The United States is the power house for subtle fascism in this country. We could start by saying gentrification increases classism but it also ties in directly into racism, though it’s no longer black and white, since the U.S has a variety of different minority groups it affects everyone who isn’t white now, historically anytime a certain minority group (usually black) tried to make money for themselves by building their own business and towns, the majority would find a way to tear it down completely. What got me into this topic was actually the show Lovecraft country, although it’s fiction, there is a vast historical background to the show. The show takes place around the 1950s in Chicago, and as you should know Jim Crow laws were on the rise in the Southern states, the main characters are mostly African American and not only do they deal with mythological and paranormal experiences coming at them but they also deal with the harsh racism of the South. A moment of the show that stuck with me and truly impacted how I will think about old money forever was the scene in which they present the Tulsa Massacre from the viewpoints of the characters, the way they displayed the terror of the people in that current time frame was absolutely overwhelming, by the time that specific episode was over my vision was blurred by tears..

There’s no point to this tangent just one of the many thoughts that cycle through my head about how unfair this country is at times, although more free than most countries it’s still saddening to know it’s history and systematically oppress.
